We just bought a Monaco 35' Cayman XL . I am working hard on learning to operate it correctly. I am pouring over the 2" manual and have a question. The information in the manual on "set up" says number 1 level the motorhome: follow the guidelines in Sec. 10 (which tells how to use the leveling jacks, to reduce sight problems and stabilize the motorhome when parked). OK I get that, BUT
then, we have arrived, leveled the coach, now we want to operate the slides. Book says to operate slides Ignition key must be off, park brake must be applied, OK , I got that, then it says in large
print
CAUTION The motorhome must be supported by the air suspension (air bags) whether extending or retracting any slide room. DO NOT operate the slide out room with the air suspension (air bags) deflated or when supported by hydraulic jacks. Damage to the slide out room, mechanism or seals can occur. SO I called Monaco LLC and asked a Tech. He said follow the slide out operation procedure . I asked "what if not level ? he said "out first, in last" if one corner is low use 1 manual leveler. WHAT ?? ARE MOST RV PARK SITES LEVEL ENOUGH TO AVOID THIS DELI MA ??
What do all of you experienced RVers do ? Thanks for letting me pick your brain (the mechanic where we bought the coach said just level it first then put the slides out "we do it all the time"

If it's brand new with a warrinty do it the way the book/owners manual says to protect your self. I have a fleetwood motor home(Discovery) my routine is set the brake, level with the motor still running, let slides out(more power to the motor with engine running)dump air bags. If site is really unlevel I dump air bags first so coach is closer to ground. Alternetly If generator is running I shut down engine leave generator running as it too will boost power available to slide motors(14 volts charge). Advice, be careful not to rack(twist) your motor home when leveling. Please get youself a check list, remember the movie RV...
Hello Folks, Thanks for your input. I will be sure to follow the SLIDE instructions, but will be looking for a level site to avoid the possibility of making a big mistake and copying the Robin Williams example of what not to do. Judy & Carl
From experience and I'm a woman; always, always drop jacks before slides. If you can't level where you're parked you want to move. Slides in before bringing up jacks when leaving. Some coachs won't allow you to bring in slides if jacks are out.
Thanks Del, I am making a sticky note and highlighting it and posting it prominently to as not to SCREW UP. Judy
Hi Judy, about making sticky note...I actually made a list of what to do in what order when setting up camp or leaving. I call it my "cheat sheet" and never forget things like, antenna down, jacks up, bins closed & locked. Laminate list or just print new one when needed, keep it where you'll find it - near rv keys.
Excellent site, keep up the good work. I read a lot of blogs on a daily basis and for the most part, people lack substance but, I just wanted to make a quick comment to say I’m glad I found your blog. Thanks,
A definite great read........
