This year I decided to start making beaded jewelry as a hobby that is easily transportable and doesn't take up too much room. It's so much fun I've branched out into wire wrap and chain maille work as well, and even started an online shop to see if it's something that might support itself. (Not a chance of that, as I tend to spend far more on tools and materials than I could ever earn that way, but maybe it will help a little.) Is anyone else here doing jewelry design, and do you sell your stuff?

Hi Kat, I have done different crafts and sold them for years. Right now I'm doing teaching more, but on the road I like to knit when we are traveling. I'm into knitting socks because they are so small and easy to manage while driving. I also have packed my beads to work on when we get to the Florida Keys. I do more with beading and stringing and knitting with beads than with wire. I can't imagin going any where with out a project to work on. Sue
Hi, Kat, I haven't done any quilts or beading. I am only doing greeting cards. Haven't sold any. When we leave home to spend a couple of months somewhere during the winter, I usually take supplies and work on Christmas cards for the next Christmas. At Peace River Resort in Florida, I learned to do iris folding and paper embroidery. I love both of these techniques. Betty

What is iris folding? Sounds interesting. I've made and sold notecards in the past, but haven't done much with them for a few years. Maybe I'll get back into that sometime, too.
Hi Kat, You asked about iris folding. This is such a fun craft. You have an iris folding pattern and trace it on your cardstock. You fold strips of paper ( you usually have 3 or 4 different paper designs which you fold). You place the numbered pattern on your cardstock which you have cut out the design. You will be working on the back of the cardstock and will not be able to see your finished work until you are through. It sounds confusing but really isn't. You can find patterns and directions on the internet -- just type in iris folding and check the different sites you find. A good one is circleofcrafters.com. Betty
Thanks, Betty! Sounds like fun, but I think beading & wire work is enough to keep me occupied. I was just curious since I hadn't heard of it before.
