THE Social Network for the RV Lifestyle

Haven't heard from anyone in a while....has anyone been affected by the economy while working on the road? Last year we actually improved our business, but early this year we have seen a slight slump. Anyone have any predictions?

We have been negatively effected by the economy, as our manufacturing facility closed in 2008 and we lost both homes in PA and SC and receiving support from family from time to time. So, began a small business, RV Cushions, Plus! and as a Professional Seamstress, I sew dining cushion sets, bunk mattress cushions, and window treatments, etc. for the RV. Presently, we are in a deep slump. How can Working on the Road help in increasing income, as we are 59 and too young to collect social security and unemployment has been used up.

Hi Patricia,

We are full time RVers, in the same age bracket, and travel to trade show, fairs, home shows, etc. You may want to take your business out and into some of these.  For instance, there are RV Shows all over the US almost all year long that have vendor booths to show your stuff!  Expand your business and do boat cushions, etc.  These wear out faster than an RV and you could also include the 100's of Boat Shows too.  At these shows, you can get lots of references and orders if it is possible for the client to get the cushions to you at the shows or ship them to you.  You can then repair and ship it back to them.  If you can set up your business in your RV, even better.  Just some thoughts....

According to the news, the economy is supposed to pick up.  Hang in there and I hope your business picks up.  Do you have a website that people can go to?  This would be extremely important so they can bookmark your page and get back to you when they need something.  The only problem I see would be costs of shipping and the hassles of boxing, etc.

God bless,

Mark
