Hi, Anne, how kind of you to respond! I was rather surprised to see you were in Fairhope. It's a small world after all. I would love to get together and see what y'all have been doing and are planning to do. I think I just have cold feet going it alone. I actually thought about going to Maher State Park at the foot of the hill and try it there first as I could get my son to come and bail me out if need be. Let's keep in touch, okay?
Rather than Maher State Park where no one is really around alot, go to Gulf Breeze Resort in Gulf Shores, off of Highway 59. It is beautiful and there you would have people to help you, shopping, etc.. We went there to test the waters with a camper. This place is really a star 5 resort and everything is so clean. We were thinking about going there before the rush of the snowbirds. Once that happens it is hard to get reservations. Dick and I are spoiled in that we like to go only to the full hook-up camps (maybe not Dick but me). I'm not a earth camper and like all the comforts of home. Does Maher have full hook-up?
Hi, Anne, Been out of town for my daughter's wedding and just got back. You would not BELIEVE Maher State Park now. I drove in the other night and it has had a major makeover. There are tons of camping spots now with full hookups and a shower house. The people there are very friendly and eager to give you information on the facility. I was so impressed at the changes. It is $30 per night or $106 for the week. I think I am going there for my first time as it is 5 minutes fromthe house and I can run to the stores if I need anything that I've forgotten. Y'all might want to take a look at it sometime and see how much they have improved it. I have stayed at the campground in Gulf Shores and love it but I am not ready to go back there just yet. Bill and I were there last year for Shrimp Fest and I'm just not ready yet. Maybe we could get together one weekend and drink coffee at McDonalds or somewhere and talk about camping. I am home for a while now. Weddings and funerals are over for a while, I hope. Thanks for responding. Judy
Hi Judy, Sorry about the name slip up. Blame it on my age--don't know what I was thinking. Understand about Gulf Shores and please accept our sympathy on the loss of your husband. Yes, it is a great spot. Dick and I are looking to go to DeFunialk (spelling) Springs the 2nd week in November. There is a 5star, Sunset King Lake Resort, there and really looks great and we can drive there in a few hours. Take a look at it via the hyperlink! We would leave on a Sunday Afternoon and stay about a week. Yesterday, we went shopping for two small recliners. We're wanting to take the uncomfortable daybed/couch out and replace it with these recliners. When we bought the camper, we didn't realize that it backed against a slanted wall and would make sitting on it uncomfortable. How about getting together in the next week or so. Dick works but I am one of those reitirees!!! who has time on their hands. See you soon. Anne
