Hi Joe. I just went through what your starting a year ago. Since I am on disability I had to get everything with my backpay payout. I was living in my sister's tent trailer for 4 years before I knew how much money I had in backpay and what I would have to live on. I took stock in what I had; a small pickup, a free place to park with utilities but no sewer. Decided if I went with a trailer, I would need to buy 2 vehicles. I decided on a Class A because I would have to move to dump the tanks, and my truck would make a good toad. I looked around at all sizes and configurations and decided on a configuration. When I got my money, I put an ad in the local bargain paper and took notes on each call. Finally got a good list and hit the one day and looked at all of them and took notes. Went through the notes a few days and finally decided on one that I could see me living in comfortably for 5 or more years, and left some money to pay for any repairs. I bought it, had some major repairs to do, but still love my new home. The only thing I didn't know was that tires are only safe for 6 to 7 years after manufacture, and I had a blowout on a local weekday trip and found my tires were 10 years old. Ended up having to buy 2 to get home and now I am not straying far from home till I can afford 4 more tires. So buyer beware. Still don't regret my choice of motorhome though. Hope this helps a little, and feel free to ask me questions. Till then, see ya.

Hi Jo:
I'm am Becky, sorry it took me so long to get back to you. I am in the same process you are in. I'm waiting for my X-husband to sell the house so I have some funds to work with, right now I have -0-. I have looked at a lot of RVs, magazines, talked to owners of RV resorts (long term campsites), looked into work-camp, etc. It's overwhelming. I think if you look at lots of RVs you will find one that suites you. Since I am a single gal, I have concentrated on new RVs due to the fact of warranty, hopefully no repairs/replacement parts for awhile until I get the hang of it. I have decided ti gi with (I hope) a new 32-34' fifth wheel, just because I don't want to feel cramped in. Who knows where I'll end up! Also I am getting one with the underside insulated in case I land somewhere cold in the winter. I'm torn between seeing the country and finding a place to call home. Guess I'll know I home when some spot feels right. Looked on the web at some gorgeous places. The Bluffs in New Hampshire looks fabulous, extremely LARGE wooded lots, but I'm not sure about the deep snow and frigid winters there. Most of the sites I'vee looked at are small, too close to neighbors for me, so I am still looking. Seems like most lots are 30-35' wide and little or no trees. Guess I'll keep looking. Let me know how you're doing and if you find any great sites!
